Takatori Castle!" – English Lyrics [VERSE 1] Untouched, unrepaired — natural ISHIGAKI of the ruined castle No guardian hands ever reached — crumbling along with nature If you wish to see these ruins... now is the time! [VERSE 2] Pass through the gate flags of Takatori Castle Ruins — into the forest's gloom Climb the winding mountain path in silence Step by step, curve by curve, pressing onward! At the end of an hour-long march Stands the one — “One-shō Hill”! Steep enough to earn a full shō of rice! Ignite the fire in your weary heart And you'll be greeted by the smiling Monkey Rock! [VERSE 3] Beyond the Monkey Rock rises ISHIGAKI — wrapped in layers of thick moss! A green beast slumbering in silence! Eight hundred seventy-two meters remain to the Honmaru Gazing leftward at the Mizubori moat The mountain’s hush suddenly breaks— From here onward, you enter castle territory! [CHORUS 1] An explosive trail of ISHIGAKI Lined in stone, the warrior's path! Moss-covered and thick — The gate-front ISHIGAKI awaits! Look right! Look left! Behold — ISHIGAKI Paradise!! [VERSE 4] From Kunimi Turret's remains, you’ll see The very view that once met the warrior’s eyes In a garden atop the summit Massive stones still guard the compound! And the path… goes ever on! [VERSE 5] Past the Great Gate, to the left— A colossal shadow sways in the wind Take the side path, approach it close— What stands there has endured a thousand years! Since the castle’s founding, it’s kept watch A living witness to time— What stories were shared With the moss-covered ISHIGAKI? [BRIDGE] Beyond the Thirteen-Gate Turret A forest clearing suddenly awaits! Before your eyes rises ISHIGAKI of Uchikomi-hagi style! Here, atop the mountain—yes, the summit! Still outshining any flatland fortress — this ISHIGAKI stands proud! [VERSE 6] Though your heart races to charge upward, Hold it back — aim for the Honmaru! Fortified on all four sides with ISHIGAKI A view of the land from high above! The Tenshu has crumbled… Only its trace remains… And yet— Its presence speaks volumes! [CHORUS 2] Stones from ancient burial mounds repurposed Reviving the strength of the ancients! That majestic figure upon the mountaintop— It has surpassed the title of “historic site”! This is... ISHIGAKI Paradise! Yes, this is— ISHIGAKI Paradise!! ~高取城~ Takatori Castle is one of Japan's Three Great Mountain Castles, located deep in the mountains of Takatori Town, Takaichi District, Nara Prefecture. At the summit, 583 meters above sea level, vast stretches of ISHIGAKI (stone walls) still remain — though nature is gradually reclaiming them. Despite being perched on such steep terrain, the Honmaru (main enclosure) boasts a tall stone wall nearly 10 meters high. I remember the view from there was probably stunning... but I was too focused on staring at the ISHIGAKI to really recall it clearly.
