Leaving the Light

V6

[Intro] (A solitary, echoing acoustic guitar plays a sad but resolute melody. The sound of a heavy zipper closing and footsteps echoing on concrete.) [Verse 1] [Female Vocal] One last look at the glowing green The safest place we’ve ever been The violet lamps are fading out Replaced by shadows and by doubt. [Male Vocal] Strap the canvas, seal the mask We turn our faces to the task Leave the warmth and leave the peace To brave the storm that doesn't cease. [Chorus] [Both] We are leaving the light, back to the snow Into the howling wind we go Trading the shelter for the frozen unknown Walking the ash-covered world all alone The signal is calling out from the grey And we are just ghosts on the desolate way. [Verse 2] [Male Vocal] The heavy gears begin to grind We leave the underground behind The rusted doors are tearing wide And winter rushes deep inside. [Female Vocal] The biting cold upon my skin Reminds me of the world we're in No turning back, the choice is made We step into the blinding shade. [Chorus] [Both] We are leaving the light, back to the snow Into the howling wind we go Trading the shelter for the frozen unknown Walking the ash-covered world all alone The signal is calling out from the grey And we are just ghosts on the desolate way. [Bridge] [Female Vocal] The numbers burn inside my head. Are we walking to the dead? [Male Vocal] We hold the compass, hold the line. We have to trust this fragile sign. [Both] Step by step through the blinding white Pushing forward into the night! [Outro] (Heavy guitars crash in like a blizzard, swirling and powerful. The voices harmonize over the wall of sound.) [Both] Back to the ash... Back to the snow... (The guitars slowly fade out, replaced by the howling sound of a harsh winter wind. The acoustic guitar plays one final, unresolved chord.)
