[Female – soft modern pop] All the others fell days ago Petals scattered, stems gone soft Only one remains in the center Leaning but refusing to drop I keep expecting it to follow To give in like the rest have done But every morning it’s still there Quiet and stubborn under the sun [Male – rising rock] I don’t know if it’s strong or just stubborn If it’s holding on for us or in spite But I can’t look away from that last red head Still fighting in the fading light [Both – building] Last one still standing Last one still standing When everything else has already let go Last one still standing Last one still standing The only proof we have left to show [Female] I water it more carefully now Speak softer when I pass the vase Like it might hear me and decide That staying is still worth the weight You stand beside me in the mornings Watching the same single bloom Neither of us says what we’re thinking But we both know it won’t last too soon [Male – full rock force] I’ve been that last one in other rooms Holding the line when the rest fell away I know the cost of staying upright When the ground beneath has given way [Both – soaring] Last one still standing Last one still standing When everything else has already let go Last one still standing Last one still standing The only proof we have left to show [Female – intimate bridge] Tonight I almost cut it free Almost ended what was left to save But my hand stopped just short of the stem And I left it standing in the vase [Male] I saw you hesitate in the doorway Saw the scissors still in your hand And for a moment I was grateful That something between us still could stand [Both – final powerful chorus] Last one still standing Last one still standing When everything else has already let go Last one still standing Last one still standing The only proof we have left to show Last one still standing Even if it’s only for a little while Last one still standing We’ll take whatever time it has left [Outro – both voices fading] Last one still standing… (Just one) Last one still standing…
