Intro Down by the river, under an open sky, John's voice in the wilderness calling us high, The water is waiting, the current runs free, But something is coming greater than he. Verse 1 John stood in the water with dust on his feet, Calling the broken and weary to meet, No palace, no crown, just a fire in his eyes, Pointing beyond him to the One who would rise. The mountains stood silent, the river rolled on, He knew in his spirit a new day would dawn, “I wash you with water, but hear what I say— The Holy One’s coming to light up the way.” Pre-Chorus "I am not worthy to loosen His shoes, Still I will tell you the truth and the news, The King is approaching, the promise is near— Prepare your hearts, the Savior is here!" Chorus Fire in the water, fire in the soul, One is coming to make the broken whole, Water may cleanse us, but His Spirit takes flight, Baptizing our darkness in holy light. Fire in the water, heaven drawing near, Calling the lost till the whole world hears, "Greater than I, yet He calls me His own— Fire in the water, leading us home." Verse 2 The crowd kept on coming from valley and town, Laying their burdens and pride on the ground, Each heart was searching, each soul had a name, And John kept proclaiming, “There’s power in His flame.” Not with the thunder of armies or gold, But mercy and truth would the Messiah unfold, The river bore witness, the heavens would sing, The wilderness echoed, “Make way for the King!” Pre-Chorus "I am not worthy to loosen His shoes, Still I will tell you the truth and the news, The King is approaching, the promise is near— Prepare your hearts, the Savior is here!" Chorus Fire in the water, fire in the soul, One is coming to make the broken whole, Water may cleanse us, but His Spirit takes flight, Baptizing our darkness in holy light. Fire in the water, heaven drawing near, Calling the lost till the whole world hears, "Greater than I, yet He calls me His own— Fire in the water, leading us home." Bridge Water on my hands, Holy Fire in my heart, Grace like a river— A brand-new start. Greater is the One, Mightier than all, When the Spirit comes, Every chain will fall. Oh, come like fire! Oh, come like rain! Wash us in mercy, Burn out the pain! Final Chorus Fire in the water, fire in the soul, Jesus is coming to make the broken whole, Water may cleanse us, but His Spirit takes flight, Baptizing our darkness in holy light. Fire in the water, heaven drawing near, Hope for the nations, freedom from fear, "Greater than I, yet He calls me His own— Fire in the water, leading us home." Outro Down by the river, the old words remain, Water and Spirit, mercy and flame, Prepare the way, let every heart know— The fire is coming... let the river flow.
