[INTRO — distant choir / whispered] They told me never open that door… I opened it anyway. And something on the other side was already waiting for me. [VERSE 1] Midnight, no moon, just smoke in the air, thousand black birds like a warning up there. I heard a voice say, “Boy, don’t run,” turned around and saw the Devil with a smoking gun. He had soldiers in the shadows, horns beneath their helmets, every one of them was smiling like they knew exactly where my head was. He said, “You want revenge? I’ll give you everything. Just put your faith in me and watch the whole world bleed.” [PRE-CHORUS — rising] I should’ve walked away, I should’ve closed my eyes, but something in me wanted to watch the heavens die. [CHORUS — HUGE] I HEAR THE WAR DRUMS! BOOM, BOOM, BOOM! THE DEVIL’S ARMY IS COMING THROUGH! LIGHTNING IN THE DISTANCE, FIRE ON THE ROAD, HEAVEN’S LOST ITS HALO, HELL JUST TOOK THE THRONE! I HEAR THE WAR DRUMS! BOOM, BOOM, BOOM! IF THE DEVIL WANTS A WAR— THEN I’LL GIVE HIM ONE TOO! [VERSE 2 — aggressive] Black flag flying from the top of the tower, every second getting closer to the final hour. No saints left, no heroes coming, just the sound of ten thousand soldiers running. He promised me a kingdom, promised me a name, but every crown he ever gave was forged inside the flames. So I took his sword, looked him in the eyes, said, “You don’t own me— I learned your tricks tonight.” [BREAKDOWN — screamed] YOU WANT MY SOUL?! COME AND TAKE IT! YOU WANT A WAR?! COME AND MAKE IT! I’LL WALK THROUGH HELL WITH FIRE IN MY VEINS! AND IF YOU’RE THE DEVIL— THEN REMEMBER MY NAME! [BRIDGE — quiet / haunting] Maybe evil isn’t born… maybe somebody teaches it. Maybe every monster was once somebody’s kid. I looked into his eyes and saw myself inside. Then I realized… the Devil wasn’t behind me. He was by my side. [FINAL CHORUS — full explosion] I HEAR THE WAR DRUMS! BOOM, BOOM, BOOM! THE DEVIL’S ARMY IS COMING THROUGH! LIGHTNING IN THE DISTANCE, FIRE ON THE ROAD, HEAVEN’S LOST ITS HALO, HELL JUST TOOK THE THRONE! I HEAR THE WAR DRUMS! BOOM, BOOM, BOOM! THE DEVIL WANTED MY SOUL— BUT I TOOK HIS TOO. [OUTRO — whispered] The war isn’t coming… It’s already here.
