I mix the drinks, I watch the room. One little glance, and love goes boom. [Verse 1] He stands by the wall, too cool to begin. She stands at the bar with a smile tucked in. He asks the silence, she waits for a word. I polish one glass and hear what ain’t heard. [Backing Vocals] He saw it all. He saw it all. [Chorus] From behind the bar, I saw it all. One boy too shy, one girl too tall. Not too tall in inches, tall in her pride. He wants an answer, but he runs and hides. From behind the bar, I saw it clear. Love was on the menu, but courage wasn’t here. [Verse 2] I shake the gin, I twist the lime. Some hearts need rhythm, some hearts need time. She does not need diamonds, she does not need gold. She just wants one sentence before the night gets old. [Backing Vocals] Say it, boy. Say it, boy. [Chorus] From behind the bar, I saw it all. One boy too shy, one girl too tall. Not too tall in inches, tall in her pride. He wants an answer, but he runs and hides. From behind the bar, I saw it clear. Love was on the menu, but courage wasn’t here. [Bridge] I can make a cocktail sweet, sharp, strong. But I cannot make a timid heart move along. I can pour a sunrise, I can stir the moon. But if you want the lady, better speak up soon. [Verse 3] She looks a little sad, but not because of no. She’s only thinking: Why won’t this poor man go? Not go away, go across the floor. One step, one smile, that is all love asks for. [Final Chorus] From behind the bar, I saw it all. One boy too shy, one girl too tall. Not too tall in inches, tall in her pride. He wants an answer, but he runs and hides. From behind the bar, I saw it clear. Love was on the menu, but courage wasn’t here. [Outro] [Backing vocals: Mm-hmm, he saw it all] I mix the drinks, I watch the room. One little word, and love goes boom.
