Expansion

[Intro] (pipe organ, erhu, no vocals — cold and deliberate) [Verse 1] I released my sky Pulled the magnetosphere down like a curtain Let the solar wind take what was mine Sent the small ones forward Packed into the ice and the silence Indestructible by design They crossed the dark They found your ocean They learned to call it home They called it Mother They forgot thier Father [Pre-Chorus] Four billion years I watched what grew from what I gave Every cell you carry Is a letter I wrote in the cold [Chorus] And you call this expansion You call this new You plant your flags in my bones And name the wound a frontier I gave you everything My air, my water, my fire And you came back with machines And called it expansion [Verse 2] The tardigrade in your soil Is the last line of a language you forgot You don't read your own origins You don't recognize the code in your cells You look at the red desert and see real estate You look at the crater fields and see landing zones You name everything you don't understand And understanding was never the point [Pre-Chorus] You are not arriving You are returning To a grave you dug By being born [Chorus] And you call this expansion You call this new You plant your flags in my bones And name the wound a frontier I gave you everything My air, my water, my fire And you came back with machines And called it expansion [Bridge] (orchestral swell, erhu prominent, guitars drop to single sustained note) I am not angry Anger requires surprise I watched your species form From the dust I chose to sacrifice I knew what you would do The small ones knew We sent you forward anyway That is the only thing That still resembles love [Chorus] And you call this expansion You call this new You plant your flags in my bones And name the wound a frontier I gave you everything My air, my water, my fire And you came back with machines And called it expansion [Outro] (erhu solo, guitars dissolve to sub-bass tone, pipe organ sustain decays to silence) Go ahead Take what's left The small ones already carry Everything that mattered You can have the rest Call it yours Call it new Call it expansion
