Every Flower Needs Sun

Yeah… I used to think I needed somebody to save me… Maybe I just needed somewhere I could grow. Mmm… Every flower needs sun. I was growing where the rain wouldn’t stop, Roots getting tired but I still wouldn’t rot, Everybody loved the beauty when I finally bloomed, But nobody saw me… praying for the room. I learned how to smile with my petals closed, Hide every wound underneath what I showed, Gave out my fragrance when I had nothing left, Watered everybody while I died of thirst myself. And I know love ain’t supposed to feel like survival, A heart shouldn’t have to beg just to feel entitled, So if I reach for the light, don’t pull me down, I spent too many seasons underground. I don’t need a garden full of roses, I just need somewhere my soul can open, Let the morning find me where I am, Let me grow into who I know I can… Every flower needs sun, Every heart needs somewhere to run, Somewhere it can lay its burdens down, Somewhere it can bloom without being cut down. Every flower needs sun, Even the ones that look like they’ve overcome, I don’t need much, just a little warmth, A little light after all these storms. If you love me, let me grow, Don’t hold me so tight that I can’t show All the colors I’ve been hiding from… Every flower needs sun. I got scars underneath these pretty leaves, Stories nobody would’ve believed, Survived winters that nobody saw, Still came back softer than I was before. I don’t wanna be somebody’s possession, I wanna be somebody’s answered prayer, Where I can speak without walking on eggshells, Where I can breathe and know that love is there. I been giving out pieces just to keep peace, Calling it love when I was losing me, Now I know a flower ain’t selfish For turning toward the sun when it finally sees it. Maybe I wasn’t broken… Maybe I was just buried. Maybe I wasn’t difficult to love… Maybe the ground was just too heavy. And if God put a seed inside me, Who am I to keep it underneath? I’m turning my face toward the morning… Finally giving myself permission to breathe. Every flower needs sun, Every soul deserves to feel someone, Every dream needs somewhere safe to land, Every heart needs a gentle pair of hands. Every flower needs sun, And I’m becoming who I was meant to become, I survived the rain, I survived the cold, Now watch me bloom with my whole soul. If you love me, let me grow, If you see me shine, don’t dim my glow, I was never meant to stay undone… Every flower needs— Sun. I don’t need to be rescued… I just needed room to bloom. Every flower needs sun. And baby… so do I.
