The Ballad of Binnorie's Harp
[Verse1] There were two sisters lived on the shore, (Binnorie, O Binnorie!) The elder she loved a knight far more, Than the younger who won his ring of gold, (By the bonnie banks o’ Fordie!) Her envy burned, a story cold. [Pre-Chorus] The false words spoken, the jealous glare, She lured her sister to the water there! The elder pushed, a single, cruel hand, To drown her love beneath the sand! [Chorus] THE CRUEL SISTER’S SIN! The waters will not cease! The river claims a soul for its twisted, false peace! LISTEN FOR THE HARP! That sings the victim’s name! Her spirit weeps in every tide, a burning, ghostly flame! [Verse2] A miller found her body cast, by the willow root so deep, Her hair was tangled, her eyes sealed fast, in death’s eternal sleep. He carved a harp from her breastbone white, her fingers made the keys, He strung the strings from her locks so bright, beneath the ancient trees. [Pre-Chorus] They brought the harp to the wedding hall, where the cruel sister stood, The strings were touched, a silent call, and it sang of blood for blood. It sang of the knight and the ring he gave, It sang of the tide and the cold, dark grave! [Chorus] THE CRUEL SISTER’S SIN! The waters will not cease! The river claims a soul for its twisted, false peace! LISTEN FOR THE HARP! That sings the victim’s name! Her spirit weeps in every tide, a burning, ghostly flame!
