The Question in the Clay

V5.5

THE LAST THING IN THE JAR (Spoken Introduction) Sit down, boy. They tell my story as though I were a fool. They tell my brother's as though he were a thief. The gods always preferred simple endings. I loved the first woman.I buried the first mother.I watched the first children become nations.I watched kings pray to the same heavens that cursed them. My brother still hangs beneath an eagle's shadow.I have carried something far heavier. Not this jar... The memory of opening it. «They told me this was justice. They told me every sorrow was meant to be. They told me the jar was the crime... and opening it the sin. But I've carried it long enough to ask another question. What if the greatest thing they placed inside... wasn't what escaped... but the story they wanted us to believe?» --- Verse 1 They shaped the clay before my eyes, Wrapped their purpose up in lies. Called it fate and called it grace, Smiling with a perfect face. Every answer heaven gave Turned another soul to slave. Every thunder, every sign, Asked for faith instead of mind. --- Pre-Chorus If truth can stand... Why fear a question? --- Chorus Was it better locked away? Or breathing in the light of day? Was the wound the broken seal... Or every lie they made us feel? They called me fool. Perhaps they're right. But fools still wake When kings fear light. --- Verse 2 If grief was waiting all along, Was silence ever truly strong? If hope remained beneath the stone, Who decided it alone? Tell me why the gods decree Which thoughts deserve eternity. If wisdom fears an opened door... Was it wisdom... Evermore? --- Bridge Don't worship jars. Don't worship fear. Question the hands That brought them here. The first chain Was never iron. It was certainty. --- Final Chorus Leave it closed... Break the seal... Neither choice --- (Spoken Outro) I cannot tell you what belongs inside. I can only tell you... they were very eager to answer before anyone asked. Now young Socrates Tell me... If you were standing here... Would you open it?»
