Chasing That Fix

Raw vintage delta blues stomp, male vocals, cracked ribbon-mic grit, Single slide guitar and thumping footboard in the verse; harp and clapping crowd creep in on the chorus, Vocal rides the edge of a shout, call-and-response ad-libs from a distant barroom corner, Mix is dry, close, and sweaty, like a back-porch burner cut live to tape, raw, delta blues

[Verse 1] You chasing that fix Bottle on your breath again I’m chasing you Boy Dust on my Sunday skin Ash on the Bible Name scratched in the pew You chasing that fix I’m still chasing you [Chorus] You chasing that fix I’m chasing you Down them tracks Through that smoke you choose Every promise that you break cuts through You chasing that Chasing that I’m chasing you [Verse 2] Cracks in the kitchen tile Glass in the sink last night You say you gone “do better” Can’t even look me in the eye Got that twitch in your fingers Got that lie on your tongue I got prayer on my whisper But my patience ’bout done [Chorus] [Bridge] [low vocal register] How long I run behind you Bare feet on them burning stones You married to that craving I’m married to your ghost [harp wail Stomp grows louder] Maybe I let you go Boy Let that shadow take your name ’Cause loving you feels Just like doing the same [Chorus]
