I walk through each day, Like there's a hole in my pocket. Leaving pieces of myself everywhere I go, Nothing I can do to stop it. Turn on my heel and one by one I scoop them all up like breadcrumbs I've left in a maze, but still they fall on to the ground behind me as I go, leaving me to pick up the pieces, guess this loop is all I'll know. If feelings were currency, And my heart was a bank, I'd owe a debt to myself, Write me a check that's blank. If only I could cash it. Happiness is something, You purchase with enough pain. But it feels like I'll never have enough, All I want is to smile again. All I want is to smile again. Wisdom feels less like a gift, And more like a light in the dark. It helps you see where you're going, But reveals how many shadows there are. Cast my light and look for signs of a path out of this strife, but all I see are the breadcrumbs I've left inside this labyrinth called life. The troll beneath the bridge, the toll booth operator, both look like me and charge a fee, I can't pay now, couldn't pay then, and sure as hell can't pay later. If feelings were currency, And my heart was a bank, I'd owe a debt to myself, Write me a check that's blank. If only I could cash it. Happiness is something, You purchase with enough pain. But it feels like I'll never have enough, All I want is to smile again. All I want is to smile again.
