The Earthmother's Hymn

[Prologue – Spoken, ritual tone] Before gods wore crowns, before suns gave flame, The soil was here, and it bore her name. Earthmother, womb of stone and seed, The first and last, the life we need. [Verse 1 – The Seed] In the furrow, in the clay, She bends to plant, she kneels to stay. Every grain, a prayer, a breath, Every sprout defies our death. From her breast, the rivers flow, From her womb, the green fields grow. Every nation, foe or friend, Kneels to her when hunger bends. [Chorus – The Eternal Mother] O Earthmother, cradle of all, We rise, we fall, we hear your call. Through rot, through rain, through storm, through strife, You are the root of every life. Bless our hands, bless the land, Flesh of earth, by your command. [Verse 2 – The Harvest] The sickle bites, the children sing, The barn is full, the bells all ring. Yet blood must fall to feed the loam, For every feast is flesh made home. We reap, we sow, we burn, we plow, Her breath is here, it feeds us now. No temple shines, no altar high, Her prayer is bread, her hymn the sky. [Chorus – The Giver of Bread] O Earthmother, cradle of all, We rise, we fall, we hear your call. Through rot, through rain, through storm, through strife, You are the root of every life. Bless our hands, bless the land, Flesh of earth, by your command. [Verse 3 – The Womb and the Grave] She takes the infant, she takes the old, Her lap is gentle, her arms are cold. The dead are sown, the grass will bloom, Her womb is cradle, her womb is tomb. Kings may burn, and gods may fight, But the fields return with dawn’s first light. Her silence louder than any prayer, For every grave is answered there. [Bridge – The Cycle] Seed to sprout, sprout to grain, Grain to feast, to ash, to rain. Rain to soil, soil to seed, Thus she gives all that we need. Blood to rot, rot to root, Root to branch, to fruit, to fruit. Flesh to soil, soil to birth, Thus she holds the endless earth. [Verse 4 – The Universal Prayer] In desert, mountain, forest, plain, Her name is whispered all the same. The slave who starves, the lord who feasts, Both owe their bread to her dark beasts. She wears no crown, she makes no war, Yet all have knelt, and all will more. For when the plowshare cuts the sod, It sings her name, it bows to God. [Final Chorus – The Earth Eternal] O Earthmother, cradle of all, We rise, we fall, we hear your call. Through rot, through rain, through storm, through strife, You are the root of every life. Bless our hands, bless the land, Flesh of earth, by your command. [Outro – Litany of Soil] Stone and seed, flesh and bone, All return, all are her own. No war, no crown, no god, no flame, Endures beyond her fertile name. Earthmother, womb of night and dawn, In you we end, in you we’re born. Cradle, grave, the soil, the sod, Earthmother reigns when there is no god.
