🕊️ All beings wish to be free from suffering. We seek only joy, we flee the pain. But what we call joy… Is only suffering in a finer thread. Pleasure is but the shadow of pain, Smooth to the touch… yet sharp beneath. Joy and sorrow — two ends of the same serpent. The head bears venom. Touch it, and it strikes. The tail feels harmless, soft like peace. But hold it too tightly... And it curls back to bite. We say “This is happiness,” But it waits only to turn. What slithers sweetly Still holds fangs of flame. Joy and sorrow, wound in one form. Two sides, same skin, same storm. The snake is whole — no part can be kept. What we cling to will still return and bite. Freedom lies not in grabbing joy, But in letting go of the snake entirely. True peace is not pleasure without pain. It is the wisdom to see: Both are conditions, Both are fleeting, Both are within the same body. Don’t hold the snake. Bow to it — then release it. Joy and sorrow… not enemies, but twins. One smiles first, the other waits within. If you know the whole — not just the part, You’ll free your hand, And free your heart. Let the serpent pass… and you remain still.
