Past, Present or Future (The Grand Tour S02E01)
[Intro] (Symphonic rock strings opening, dramatic electric guitar arpeggio, a steady heavy drum beat enters) [Verse 1] The traveling circus has finally found a home No longer pack-packing the giant silver dome In the green hills of Cotswolds the British tent will stay But the three old presenters are flying far away [Verse 2] They land in Switzerland where mountains touch the sky Three unbelievable supercars are waiting standing by To test the past and present against the future line Beneath the snowy peaks and the fields of alpine pine [Verse 3] Jeremy Clarkson loves the roaring old design A Lamborghini Aventador, yellow and divine A big V-twelve engine that shouts into the air Traditional bensin power with styling everywhere [Verse 4] And James May is cruising in the new-school hybrid way The Honda NSX is his choice for the day With petrol and electric motors working side by side A clever bit of physics for a smooth and modern ride [Verse 5] But Richard has the future, a silent lightning bolt The Rimac Concept One that gives the world a jolt Twelve hundred horsepower from batteries inside A heavy Croatian monster for a crazy speedway ride [Verse 6] They drive through beautiful Lucerne, the streets are clean and tight The local people watch them in the golden summer light They look for old museums and a place to get some food But bickering as always ruins the elegant mood [Verse 7] Jeremy is mocking the silent electric car He says a real supercar must be heard from very far But Richard steps on the pedal, the Rimac leaves a blur An instant wall of torque without an engine purr [Verse 8] They find a local runway to do a classic race To see which technology can set the fastest pace The Lamborghini screams, the Honda starts to fight But the Rimac disappears like a bullet in the night [Verse 9] It launches so aggressively, it leaves them way behind The speed of the electric car is blowing Jeremy's mind The old-school bensin monster cannot match the battery power Losing the straight-line battle in less than half an hour [Verse 10] They check into a health spa where old men go to die With mud upon their faces and a tear inside their eye Jeremy hates the salad, he wants a bloody steak While James is drinking juices that the doctors like to make [Verse 11] But now the challenge deepens, the mountain roads are near An official hillclimb event filled with speed and fear The asphalt is twisting up the steep and rocky wall One little single mistake and the car will surely fall [Verse 12] Jeremy takes the Lambo, the V-twelve roars so loud He slides around the hairpins, making Italians proud James follows in the Honda, very neat and very slow Maintaining the clean lines where the racing drivers go [Verse 13] Then Richard straps his helmet, the Rimac starts to roll He’s pushing the electric beast to take the ultimate goal He flies across the finish line, the clock is showing fast But a terrifying danger is coming at the last [Verse 14] [Sudden music drop - heavy suspenseful drums and low bass] The car goes over the edge, it rolls down the grassy hill A horrible tumbling crash that makes the heart stand still It lands upside down in the meadow, the fiberglass is torn In the quiet Swiss valley, a nightmare has been born [Verse 15] Jeremy and James are running, their faces white as ghost Thinking they have lost the friend they always mock the most But Richard crawls out safely before the sparks can ignite And the Rimac explodes in flames, burning blue and bright [Verse 16] Back inside the Cotswolds tent, the little Hamster sits With crutches on his arms but laughing at his wits They look at the burnt ruins of the supercar so dear Rejoicing that the presenter is still alive and here [Verse 17] The fourteenth song is over, the second season’s born A beautiful adventure that was shattered and torn From alpine luxury to the fire in the ditch The Grand Tour is back again on a high-octane pitch [Outro] (Epic emotional guitar solo, symphonic rock strings building to a massive final crescendo, a sudden loud car crash sound followed by silence and a burning fire hiss)
