I moved where no one knows my name, The streets all sound the same. My phone’s gone quiet, the stillness rings, I talk to the walls. They don’t say a thing. The dampness leaks on well worn floors, Unknown steps behind closed doors. The silence sighs like endless rain, And I can’t tell if I'm in my brain. Everyone’s got somewhere to be, I’m just another one nobody sees. I tell myself I’m doing just fine, But I’ve been crying out this whole time. I’m new in town, and I’m breaking low, No map will tell me where I should go. I walk alone these unknown roads, Hopin' there’s someone to unburden my load. I need to succeed, I can't stand still, But I'm stuck between the want and the will. I’m new in town, and I can’t shake The loneliness and dull heartache. I came to town to see her face, Thought to hold her in a warm embrace. She said she’s moved on, she’s not the same, And left me standing in the wind and the rain. I wandered back to the tenement room, Her laughter taunting through the gloom. Boxes unpacked, bags askew, Can't believe she said we're through. I thought new streets could start our life But I just lost more than my future wife. Every light’s the same colorless gray, And I’m still falling down day by day. I’m new in town, and I’m going mad, The nights are cold. Have I been had? I walk alone past bookstore signs, Looking for friends I'll never find. The city burns and I disappear, Nobody knows why I am here. I’m new in town, it feels so raw I just can't seem to shake it's flaw. There’s a version of me that stayed behind, Where the good life churned; it wasn't such a grind. I burned that bridge when I chased her here. I gotta get real tough and kick it in to gear The room lit up by marquee lights Days run down into nameless nights I sit alone on an unmade bed, Wond'rin' what's waitin' ahead. I swear I hear my old life call, Through whispered words and empty halls. Every thought fades to the cold and the dark, And I’m too tired to make my mark. I’m new in town — the silence wins, The streets don’t ask where I’ve been. Every face just passes by, And I forget how to say goodbye. I’m new in town and I whisper low, To the one voice that sets me aglow. I came to start, I came to ride, But maybe this is where I lose my pride.
