Voices in My Head

VOICES IN MY HEAD [Verse 1] Voices in my head when the whole world is asleep, One is scared of tomorrow, one digs through memories. My eyes are tired, but everything inside is wide awake, Thoughts keep running through the darkness, never giving me a break. Exhausted, but I’m wired, Like there’s armor on my chest. My body keeps on begging, But my mind won’t let me rest. What if something happens? What if there’s something I don’t see? What if everything comes crashing down The moment I stop being strong for everybody? [Pre-Chorus] Sometimes I’m afraid I’ll lose myself inside the noise, But every thought that speaks to me is not my inner voice. I’m still here, I’m breathing, And this night will pass somehow. [Chorus] Voices in my head, Could you finally be quiet? I’ve been listening long enough, You don’t have to predict my life. Voices in my head, You’ve stolen far too much of my sleep. But no matter what you tell me in the darkness, Morning’s still coming for me. I’m exhausted, not defeated, I’m so tired, but my fire still burns. You can scream and you can question — But you don’t decide who I am. [Verse 2] One voice starts counting every bill, Asking how I’ll make it through. What if everything I’ve built Falls apart before I know what to do? Work and money, future, survival, Responsibility every day. What if everything I’m carrying Gets too heavy along the way? That voice knows every number, Knows the terror of losing it all. It sits beside me in the darkness, Puts its weight against my chest. But I’ve built before from nothing. I’ve fallen down and stood again. I may not know what tomorrow brings, But I know I’ll find a way. [Verse 3] One voice talks about my older children, How far away they feel from me. Asks me where I went wrong, If they’ll ever find their way back to me. Then there’s my youngest, And the fear that never sleeps. I want to catch him before he falls, Protect him from everything I see. But I can’t control each moment. I can’t move each stone away. I can love him, I can hold him, But I have to let him find his way. Then one voice is calling for my mother, Sometimes she feels so far away. Sometimes I just want to be her daughter, Not the strong one for a day. And one voice whispers of my husband — Love and anger, hope and pain. But I don’t need every answer At three o’clock inside my brain. [Bridge] Maybe I’m not going crazy. Maybe I’m just fucking tired. From thinking, worrying and fighting, From keeping every single fire under control. Children, love, money, future, Fear that everything could break. All this weight upon my shoulders — But my worries aren’t my fate. I don’t have to save it all tonight. I don’t have to know what’s coming next. I am allowed to need some silence. I am allowed to need some rest. And tomorrow, I can rise again. [Final Chorus] Voices in my head, Yeah, I still can hear you talking. But I won’t let you take my peace Or keep me from tomorrow morning. My older children have their own roads, But my door will stay wide open. My youngest has to live his life Without me breaking from the worry. My mother can be far away. And love can carry scars. Money and tomorrow can still scare me — But they don’t get to own my heart. I’m exhausted, not defeated. I’m so tired, but I’m standing here. I’ve already made it through so many storms, And that strength is still mine. Voices in my head — You’re only thoughts. You may be loud. But you are not me. [Outro] Maybe you’ll come back tomorrow. Maybe another night will be this hard. But even the loudest night has never stopped the morning. And when it comes — I’ll get up again.
