(VerseA) Stomped down the alley, saw the fake glow Piled-up rhythms that just don't flow Preaching cool, like they know the drill But their funky ain't got no thrill (Chorus) Funk ain't funky when it ain't got soul It's a hollow beat, digging a shallow hole Where's the grit, where's the fight, where's the heat in the night Funk ain't funky when it don't feel right (VerseB) Plastic smiles with a plastic groove Trying too hard, but they can't move Shiny suits with a deadman's strut Calling it funk, but it ain't got guts (Chorus) Funk ain't funky when it ain't got soul It's a hollow beat, digging a shallow hole Where's the grit, where's the fight, where's the heat in the night Funk ain't funky when it don't feel right (Bridge) Give me the dirt, give me the sweat, give me the grind Give me the mess that's raw and unrefined Take your shiny façade, shove it out of sight Funk ain't funky if it ain't alive tonight (Chorus) Funk ain't funky when it ain't got soul It's a hollow beat, digging a shallow hole Where's the grit, where's the fight, where's the heat in the night Funk ain't funky when it don't feel right
