[Verse 1 – Slow, clean gang vocals over funeral drums]
Nine winters old they took the boy
From mother’s arms and hearth-fire joy
They dragged him deep where the pine roots drink
And fed him mushrooms at the brink
They carved the bear upon his chest
They taught his heart it must not rest
[Verse 2 – Still slow, voices lower]
They chained him naked to the stone
Till moon was full and he alone
They whispered runes into his screams
Till man and beast shared the same dreams
They broke the chain the night it snapped
The boy came back, the bear walked wrapped
[Chorus riff explodes – blast beats, guttural roar]
HE IS THE BEAR THAT WALKS AS MAN!
FLESH IS A CAGE HE TEARS APART!
HE IS THE STORM INSIDE THE SKIN!
THE RAGE THAT EATS THE RAGING HEART!
[Verse 3 – Mid-tempo, galloping]
He feels no blade, he feels no cold
His eyes roll white, his mouth runs bold
He laughs at spears that kiss his ribs
He sings while blood runs down in ribs
The shield wall sees him come and quakes
The gods themselves make no mistakes
[Verse 4 – Faster, voices shredding]
He bites the rim, the red mist falls
He does not hear his brothers’ calls
He kills his friend, he kills his foe
He kills the difference long ago
Only the song inside his skull
A howling void that eats the soul
[Bridge – Slow again, almost spoken over single tagelharpa]
And when the battle’s done and won
He stands alone beneath the sun
The bear looks out through human eyes
And finds no place beneath the skies
He kneels and weeps like any child
The beast departs, the man runs wild
[Final blast – heaviest yet, entire band screaming]
HE IS THE GIFT AND HE IS THE CURSE!
HE IS THE DOOR THAT CANNOT CLOSE!
HE IS THE FIRE THAT EATS THE HEARTH!
THE WOLF THAT KILLS THE ONE WHO KNOWS!
BERSERKR!
BERSERKR!
THE BEAR THAT WALKS AS MAN NO MORE!
[Outro – Tagelharpa alone, one long weeping note]
Somewhere a mother still calls his name
Somewhere a chain lies broke in twain
Somewhere a boy still tries to sleep
While the bear inside counts heartbeats deep
And waits
And waits
For the next red moon to rise.
