Verse 1 Beneath the stars in twilight grey, Beside Cuiviénen’s quiet bay, The Firstborn woke with open eyes, And sang beneath the starlit skies. Their voices rose in wonder deep, While still the world lay vast asleep. And silver light on waters played, When Eldar hearts unshadowed stayed. Chorus O Children of Ilúvatar, Born beneath the watching star! Fair and free, they roam the shore, While darkness waits beyond the door. Verse 2 But whispers came on winds unseen, Of shadows dark and lands unclean. Melkor’s hand with malice cold, Sought to snare the young and bold. He sent his spies, he wove his lies, And fear was born beneath the skies. The Eldar feared the shadows tall, And cried for hope, for strength to call. Chorus O Children of Ilúvatar, Born beneath the watching star! Fair and free, they roam the shore, While darkness waits beyond the door. Verse 3 Then came the Valar, crowned in light, From Valinor they rode to fight. The hosts of Arda rose in war, To break the chains of fear and more. Tulkas laughed, his strength unbound, And Melkor’s darkness shook the ground. In Angband deep, they broke his throne, And bound him fast in iron stone. Bridge (Soft and solemn) Three ages long he lay in chains, While peace returned to bless the plains. And yet a shadow lingered near, A distant echo of their fear. Verse 4 The Valar called the Eldar fair, To leave their starlit homes and care. To journey west to lands of light, Beyond the seas, beyond the night. But some remained, and some were torn, By paths of hope and hearts forlorn. Their choices made, their fates entwined, With joy and sorrow yet combined. Final Chorus O Children of Ilúvatar, Born beneath the watching star! The world awaits your song once more, While hope and shadow wage their war. Outro (Soft, fading) Beneath the stars they still remain, The echoes of the Elves’ refrain.
