Needle

[Verse 1] I climbed the old pine Bare feet, cool bark Moon on my knuckles Mud on my jeans Your yard was sleeping The fence held still I heard my breath Like paper in the dark [Pre-Chorus] Higher I went Past the last branch Past the porch lamp Past my small plans [Chorus] Northern lights, come down Northern lights, come down Paint my face green Paint my hands gold Northern lights, come down Northern lights, come down I found a whole sky In one tree top [Verse 2] The needles shook When the wind moved through And the black turned blue Then a ribbon burned You would have laughed At how I froze One boy in a tree With the world on hold [Pre-Chorus] Then the air lit up Slow as a prayer Wide as a river Spilling everywhere [Chorus] Northern lights, come down Northern lights, come down Paint my face green Paint my hands gold Northern lights, come down Northern lights, come down I found a whole sky In one tree top [Bridge] If I could keep that glow Tucked in my sleeve I’d bring it home For you to see But it drifted on Soft and slow Still in my chest Where the cold winds go [Chorus] Northern lights, come down Northern lights, come down Paint my face green Paint my hands gold Northern lights, come down Northern lights, come down I found a whole sky In one tree top
