[Intro] 4... 5... 6... Sick — LET'S GO! . . . [Verse 1] Midway through the road of life I woke up in the dark No map, no light, no nothing — just me and my guitar The straight path lost, the forest thick, the devil's wind blew cold I've been writing about this place since I was thirty years old [Verse 2] A poet showed up at my side, said "Kid, I'll hold your pick" Seven centuries dead but his timing's still real slick We crossed the gate, I read the sign, I played the opening chord: All hope abandon, ye who enter — now that's a good hook, Lord... [Pre-Chorus] Hey man, cool down, don't make a scene I got a deal with the big guy, if you know what I mean... [Chorus] This is the Hell Blues, I lost the way Abandon all hope — have a nice stay! This tour is killing me, it's swallowing me whole... And I fell — and I fell ...And fell as a dead body falls! [Verse 3] We hit the river and the ferryman was giving us the eye Old Charon cracked his knuckles, said "The living need not apply" "What the hell are you doing here? I only ship the dead" Virgil lit a cigarette and slowly turned and said : [Pre-Chorus] Hey man, cool down, don't make a scene I got a deal with the big guy, if you know what I mean... [Chorus] This is the Hell Blues, I lost the way Abandon all hope — have a nice stay! I'm no Orpheus baby, I won't turn when you call And I fell — and I fell ...And fell as a dead body falls! [Bridge] I danced in the storm with the lovers, cheek to cheek I took Cerberus for a walk — that dog is such a freak! Farinata rose up from his tomb and looked me in the eye Ulisse said "come sail with me" — I said "Man, not this time" Ugolino set the table — I said "Thanks, I'll pass!" Nine circles, one guitar ... and what a trip it was! [Guitar Solo] [Final Chorus] This is the Hell Blues, I lost the way Abandon all hope — have a nice stay! I'm no Orpheus baby, I won't turn when you call And I fell — and I fell ...And fell as a dead body falls! This is the Hell Blues — I found my sound Nine circles deep and I'm still not turning around This is the Hell Blues, I lost the way Please tell me how long, how long ...Before we get to see the stars again? [Outro] ... And I fell! ...and I fell! ...AND I FELL! .... AND I FELL! ... LIKE A DEAD BODY FALLS! [End]
