Boudica, One More Fight

V6

Boudica - The Woman Before the Legend One Last Fight After the defeat at Paulerspury, Boudica's rebellion was broken. The Roman army had regained control of the roads and the countryside. Those who survived scattered, wounded and exhausted, with no army left to follow and nowhere safe to go. For Rome, the rebellion was coming to an end. For those who had survived the fighting, there was only the aftermath. Some would escape. Some would be captured. Others would remain where they had fallen, forgotten among the dead. The battlefield was silent. The wounded waited in the darkness. And somewhere among them, one woman was still breathing. She had lost everything. But she was not ready to die. This is the final chapter. Not the story of an army. Not the story of a queen. Just one woman. One last breath. One last fight. - The Wound (I) - We Are Not Alone (II) - Camulodunum (III) - Londinium (IV) - Verulamium (V) - Paulerspury (VI) - One Last Fight (VII) ‐----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The stone is cold beneath my spine I taste the iron on my tongue My fingers curl but will not close The fever rises, breath by breath I should be dead, but I'm still here Still counting heartbeats in the dark The voices that I knew are gone But something in me screams for water They're gone, they're gone, the air is silent No hands to find me, no one left I have lost everything And still I want to live I still want to live, I'm still trying to live Even now when there's no reason left Even like this, alone on the cold stone I have lost everything that made me whole But something in me screams to stay Hold me here, don't let me go One more breath, I need one more The field comes back in broken pieces A horse, a voice, a face, then silence I see their faces through the fever I reach for one, but touch the air I hear small footsteps somewhere near me I turn my head, but no one's there I call their names into the darkness But only silence answers me The sky is white, or maybe grey I can't remember yesterday My heart keeps beating through the silence I cannot make myself let go I still want to live I still want to live, I'm begging to live Don't let me fade into the grey Don't let me go, not yet, not now I have lost everything, every voice I knew Every hand that held me through the dark Keep me here, anchored to this world One more breath, I'll fight for one more My lips are cracked, the sun is burning Or is it night? I cannot tell The room grows wide, the walls grow distant I hear their laughter, faint and small My hands reach out into the darkness I hear my name, then hear no more I close my eyes, the world goes quiet I hear small footsteps by the door I still want to live I still want to live Don't let me go I still want to live, please, I want to live Don't let me go, I'm slipping away Not yet, I'm not ready, not now I have lost everything, everyone who knew my name Every hand that kept me warm Hold me here before I fade One more breath, just one more breath I close my eyes. I see them. My daughters. © 2026 Written by Dhow All rights reserved.
