[Verse 1] In the heartwood hush You came undone Scar on your hands Ash on your tongue I held your weight Like fallen rain You blinked at the boughs And forgot your name [Pre-Chorus] The moss kept time With your restless breath The firs stood still And loosened death I sang you low So you could stay Where the thorned old world Could not get in your way [Chorus] Rest here, my love Rest here, my love The forest knows What the wound once was Rest here, my love Rest here, my love My voice is home When the dark comes close [Verse 2] Once you wore gold Like a warning flame Once they cheered your name Then burned your name Now your eyes hold night But they do not fall When I touch your cheek You let go of all [Pre-Chorus] The owls turned slow In the cedar air The moonlit leaves Fell everywhere I kept you near By a silver thread And the hurtful past Went quiet in your head [Chorus] Rest here, my love Rest here, my love The forest knows What the wound once was Rest here, my love Rest here, my love My voice is home When the dark comes close [Bridge] If they come with steel Let them find the pine Let them chase your ghost Past the eldervine You are not their war You are not their shame In my arms tonight You learn a gentler name [Final Chorus] Rest here, my love Rest here, my love The forest knows What the wound once was Rest here, my love Rest here, my love My voice is home And you are safe with us (ahh) (you are safe with us) (ahh) (rest here, my love)
