[Turn VII: Amen] [echoes from the past] …unchosen… [Prologue – The Word Made Flesh] In the beginning was the Word— and the Word was brown. The Word was barefoot. The Word had no papers. The Word was queer-coded and unarmed. And the world— did not comprehend Him. If Christ came back today, He’d be mistaken for a border crosser, beaten like a protest drum, branded a threat for feeding the wrong mouths and flipping the wrong tables. He wouldn’t be crucified in Rome. He’d be shot in a no-knock raid. He’d be ghosted by Christians who sell grace but hoard salvation. [Verse – The Anthem Reversed] They told us we weren’t written in. So we rewrote the song. We sang in Spanglish. We bled in dialect. We screamed in silence. We knelt—not in submission— but to plant seeds. We found each other in the footnotes. The prison records. The unmarked graves. The protest signs you tried to call noise. You thought we were a side note. We turned the page. [Bridge – Resurrection Is a Rebellion] What is resurrection if not a refusal to stay buried? What is hope if not the gall to keep dancing on scorched earth? We did not ask for your altar. We built our own. We carved it from grief. We lit it with names. And we sanctified the ash you left behind. [Verse – The Flag We Made (Reprise)] The flag we fly wasn’t handed to us. We stitched it from fractured bloodlines and reclaimed lullabies. Each star— a name you tried to forget. Each stripe— a border we crossed just to breathe. We didn’t burn your flag. We repurposed it. [Chorus – We Were Never Unchosen] You called us the unchosen. But that was your illusion. We were chosen— by each other. By ancestors who dreamed through occupation. By saints who never made sainthood but walked on anyway. We were chosen by survival. We never needed your blessing. We were the blessing. [Outro – Amen] So say it with us: Amen— not because it’s over. But because we’ve just begun. Amen— not a whisper, but a war cry in harmony. Amen— for every voice that was ever told “You don’t belong.” We do. We are the prophecy they never saw coming. We are the gospel they tried to redact. We are the resurrection in real time. And this— This is the ending where the unchosen chose themselves. Amen.
