I grew up dreaming of a marriage, A love eternal, strong and pure, A happy home, a loving family, A future I thought I could secure. When someone said, "One in three Will see their marriage fall apart," I promised I would not be the one— Believing I controlled both hearts. But I could not control his choices, No matter how much love I gave. I tried so hard to save our marriage, Believing there must be a way. I stayed for my children. And then I left for my children. I couldn't let these dear ones learn That love was meant to hurt that way. I thought my greatest dream was gone When I chose to walk away. Then Rick came walking into my life, And brought a love I'd never known, A marriage built on trust and kindness, A place where both our hearts found home. Through all the years we've shared together, Our love has grown in every way— And I've been grateful for that blessing With every ordinary day. Last night we chatted about his life, So many blessings he'd never planned, The freedom and the peace we've found, The joy of walking hand in hand. We marveled at the life he's living, More than he'd ever dreamed he'd see— Then morning came, and in his arms, I realized the same was true for me. More than I ever dreamed, More than I thought life could be, More love and joy and laughter, More beautiful memories. I'd dreamed of finding a companion Who would share eternity with me— And what we've built together Is more than I ever dreamed. The comfort of a peaceful home, The freedom just to be, The blessing of financial peace Plenty of time for him and me. The warmth of knowing we are loved, The joy of each new day— A life of unexpected blessings Beyond what words can say. I wake each day wanting him to know How much he means to me, And every day he finds a way To love me just as generously. We each delight in giving to the other, In making dreams come true— And somehow, in the giving, We're both receiving, too. And then another thought came to me, A truth I'd somehow never seen I'd thought my first marriage ending Had ended my childhood dream. But a failed attempt Didn't mean the dream was through— The marriage I'd imagined long ago Really has come true! AND IT COUNTS! More than I ever dreamed, More than I thought life could be, More peace and understanding, More wonderful memories. The freedom just to be together, The blessings we've received— The greatest dream I ever had Is more than I ever dreamed. I didn't lose my greatest dream Just when I thought it'd be— And now I'm living every day More than I ever dreamed.
