(Verse) Up in the hills, when rain falls it's pristine It's cool and refreshing, pure and clean. It springs up through the ground, all nature to nourish, So all of our plants and creatures can flourish. (Verse) With fishes which swim to breed in the shallows And mayfly emerge to make feeding for swallows. And kingfishers watch from riverside bushes, And ducks, geese and swans come and sleep in the rushes. (CHORUS) Pure, fresh water, running through our land, Pure fresh water, just as God had planned Pure, fresh water, now isn't that just grand Don't let it stop; don't let it stop. (Verse) Where the deer from the forests and sheep from the fields, Come down to the river to drink what it yields, And in the blue sky, the birds fly above The blackbird, the robin, the lark and the dove. (Verse) Where children play safely in sparkling water, Jumping and splashing, with bubbling laughter. Where people can sit enjoying wild flowers Or walk through sweet pastures for hours and hours. (CHORUS) Pure, fresh water, running through our land Pure, fresh water, just as God had planned Pure, fresh water, now isn't that just grand. Don't let it stop; don't let it stop. (Verse) Then further downstream, it starts to meander, Where farmstead beasts roam and shy foxes wander, Till a dam blocks it up for the folks in a town, So the people can drink, while the water goes down. And then more is used by industrialisation, Which produces the goods, for the use of our nation. But factory waste gets back into the river, With untreated sewage, which makes nature quiver. (CHORUS) Dirty water, polluting our drains, Dirty water, polluting our veins, Dirty water, polluting our brains. When will it stop? When will it stop? (Verse) While water treatment works lie dank and neglected, Which Responsible Bodies have not inspected, Water Companies, place profits over pollution, And it's cheaper not to find a solution. And all of the wildlife and fish start to die, And people are poisoned by mass E-Coli. And brown, slimy sludge, is released to the sea Bringing all sorts of dangers to you and to me. (CHORUS) Dirty water, running through our drains, Dirty water, running through our veins, Dirty water, running through our brains. When will it stop? When will it stop? (Verse) Who will have the courage to tackle the bosses Who care less for the people than profits and losses? Who don't care about Nature: they only have greed The vast money coffers of shareholders to feed. So our rivers and oceans are neglected and die, And campaigning folks, don't even get a reply. (CHORUS) Dirty water, clogging up our drains Dirty water, clogging up our veins, Dirty water, clogging up our brains. WHEN WILL IT STOP? WHEN WILL IT STOP? (Verse) The time is now urgent to put right this mess Before all of our earth turns into a cess And humans and animals and nature will die And our Earth, which supports us, is wrung out to dry. Humankind, have exploited and taken what's free, And forgotten to give back, for Eternity. (CHORUS) Dirty water, clogging up our drains Dirty water, clogging up our veins Dirty water, clogging up our brains WHEN WILL IT STOP? WHEN WILL IT STOP? PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!
