One — The Ascent Through the Songs Not all songs are equal. There are songs… and there is the Song of Songs. As one must pass through Egypt, cross the Red Sea, wander the wilderness, and stand at Jordan before entering the Promised Land, so too the soul must pass through all the songs of Scripture before daring to sing this one. This is not beginner’s ground. It is the holy of holies of love. The journey moves from law to prophets, from David to Isaiah — until the soul, purified and matured, is ready to enter the bridal chamber of divine communion. Two — The Drama of Divine Love The Song is a marriage-drama. There are four voices: The Bridegroom. The Bride. The maidens. The companions. The Bridegroom is Christ. The Bride is the Church. The companions are angels and perfected souls. The maidens are believers growing toward fullness. The Bride prays: “Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth.” This is no earthly desire. It is the longing for direct encounter — not through prophets, not through shadows — but through the Incarnate Word Himself. And the Father sends the Son. Three — Two Loves, One Choice There are two loves: The love of the flesh — passing, corruptible, bound to possession and decay. And the love of the Spirit — fragrant, anointed, born from God. Sin stinks. Virtue exhales perfume. To understand this Song, the soul must be purified. One cannot cling to earthly desire and expect spiritual embrace. When the Bridegroom comes fragrant with divine anointing, the soul touched by Him becomes fragrant too. The spiritual kiss is union of mind and heart with Christ. The embrace is participation in divine life. The Song of Songs is not about romance. It is about transformation. From wilderness to wedding. From shadow to presence. From hearing about God… to being embraced by Him.
