🎢 Song 171 – The Cup and the Road

V6

Paper 171 – On the Way to Jerusalem 🎢 Song: The Cup and the Road (Verse 1 – Crowns of Dust) They spoke of kingdoms built by men, Of David's throne restored again, The road to Zion filled their eyes, While heaven moved in grand disguise. A mother came with secret dreams, For seats of honor by the King, But in His eyes there burned a sorrow, They could not see beyond tomorrow. They wanted glory dressed in gold, He spoke of suffering untold. (Pre-Chorus) "Can you drink the cup I drink? Can you walk where I must go?" The question echoed through their hearts, Yet still they did not know. (Chorus) The cup and the road, The cross before the crown, The Father lifting spirits up While men looked downward. The cup and the road, The narrow way of grace, Where those who lose themselves in love Will finally see His face. (Verse 2 – Count the Cost) Sit down and measure what remains, When dreams are stripped of earthly gain, For every soul that follows Me Must choose what kind of kingdom he sees. Not honor, not applause of men, Not power rising now and then, But faith that stands when hopes collapse, And love that endures every loss. The treasure hidden in the field Demands a heart completely yielded. (Chorus) The cup and the road, The cross before the crown, The Father lifting spirits up While men looked downward. The cup and the road, The narrow way of grace, Where those who lose themselves in love Will finally see His face. (Verse 3 – The Faithful Friend) The road through Perea slowly winds, As clouds of destiny align, He blesses Abner one last time, Entrusting him the work divine. The seventy continue still, Proclaiming peace, the Father's will, While few believe their Master can Be taken by mortal hands. For how could Life itself be slain? How could the Light know death or pain? (Bridge 1 – Jerusalem) "Jerusalem, Jerusalem..." His voice breaks through the gathering wind, "I would have held you near to Me, But you would never enter in." The prophets fell within your walls, The truth rejected by your halls, Yet still He climbs the final hill, Surrendered to the Father's will. (Verse 4 – Bartimeus) A blind man cried above the crowd, Above opinions strong and loud, Eyes without sight perceived the way, Better than scholars of the day. He cast aside his tattered cloak, And ran toward hope at Jesus' call, For faith can see what knowledge can't, And grace can raise the one who falls. (Verse 5 – Zaccheus) High among the branches stood A wealthy man misunderstood, Rich in silver, poor in peace, Longing for some inner release. The Master stopped and called his name, No accusation, guilt, or shame, And in that moment mercy showed The true direction of the road. He came to seek and save the lost, No matter what the social cost. (Bridge 2 – As He Passed By) As He passed by, the broken healed. As He passed by, the hidden revealed. As He passed by, fear disappeared. As He passed by, hearts volunteered. He never hurried through a soul. He never treated lives as small. He saw the hunger underneath, And answered needs no eyes could see. (Final Chorus) The cup and the road, The journey few understood, The Son of Man descending low To reveal the Father's good. The cup and the road, Still calling us today, Beyond the need for earthly crowns, Beyond ambition's way. The cup and the road, Where faith becomes the sight, Where love survives humiliation, And darkness yields to light. (Outro) Some were looking for a throne. He was revealing a Father. Some were preparing for a kingdom. He was preparing souls. Some saw a road to Jerusalem. He saw a road to eternity.
