─────────── 21 Journal Vol.14 ─────────── Where Does HOOKS Take a Song? A year of TOOone data Introduction ───TOOone HOOKS feels pretty established now. ───Sensei Yes. It has changed how people encounter music on Suno. ───TOOone And yet we still don’t really know what it’s doing. ───Sensei That’s the interesting part. Suno hasn’t revealed the algorithm, but after nearly a year, patterns begin to appear in the numbers. ───TOOone You can’t see the cat, but you can follow the pawprints and loose fur. ───Sensei The “Cat-Paw Method.” ────── So let’s use TOOone’s data to ask two things: how songs circulate through HOOKS, and how HOOKS may be changing the way songs are discovered. ───────── 1. Reading the Circulation ───────── ───TOOone At first, I treated HOOKS views like ordinary video views. 100 views meant about 100 people reached. 1,000 meant it did well. ───Sensei But the numbers behave differently. Some songs stop at a few dozen. Others reach 100–300, then 500 or 1,000. A small number go into the thousands or tens of thousands. That suggests HOOKS may be testing songs in several stages rather than placing everything into one feed. Roughly, TOOone’s data suggests: 0–100 — small initial exposure 100–300 — possible wider circulation 300–1,000 — reaching more user groups 1,000+ — repeated circulation beyond followers Songs reaching tens of thousands may be returning to the HOOKS stream again and again. ───TOOone Love Vibration—about 47,000 views in early September—is a good example. ───Sensei Exactly. It seemed to resurface repeatedly. So perhaps the useful question isn’t only: “How many views?” but: “How far did the song travel?” ───────── 2. Is HOOKS Becoming the Main Entrance? ───────── ───TOOone I also suspect a large share of my Likes now comes through HOOKS. ───Sensei That makes sense. Before HOOKS: Creator → Song → Play → Like Now: 10 seconds of sound and image → Interest → Like → Maybe the full song ───TOOone So the song itself is no longer the entrance. Sensei Right. Users don’t even have to be looking for music. They scroll, encounter something for a few seconds, and react. In TOOone’s data, HOOKS views can greatly exceed full-song plays. So the number of people who hear a fragment may be far larger than the number who hear the whole song. ───TOOone Like an old-fashioned listening sample. ───Sensei Except the sample has become content of its own. It isn’t just an ad for the full song. Ten seconds of sound and image can work as a tiny finished piece. That means HOOKS may be doing more than generating full-song plays. It also creates awareness: This song exists. Someone may never hear the full track, but still remember the voice, image, or title. ───────── 3. From Five-Second Loops to Small Films ───────── ───TOOone When HOOKS began, five seconds was a common length for AI video. So I made five-second clips, reversed them, and turned them into ten-second loops. ───Sensei But your process changed. ───TOOone Now I listen to the song first and ask: “What scenes does this song need?” Usually I create three or four scenes—an intro, a character, movement, an ending. That gives me about 25–30 seconds of material, and I cut the best part for HOOKS. ───Sensei So the process changed from: Make a video and add music to: Let the music shape the visuals. AI video tools got better, editing became easier, and HOOKS gave creators somewhere to use those skills. Without noticing, we began learning a kind of visual grammar. ───TOOone It feels like four years of film school compressed into one. ───Sensei With tuition paid in credits. ───────── Conclusion — Just Make It Move ───────── After a year of watching HOOKS, I still don’t know exactly how the algorithm works. But I learned this: You can study something by making things inside it. A video doesn’t need elaborate 3D animation. Slowly zoom into a still image. Move the viewpoint sideways. Let only the hair move. That is already video. The better question may not be: “Can I make a video?” but: “What part of this song should these ten seconds show?” A year ago, I was reversing five-second clips to make loops. Now I hear a song and imagine three or four scenes. I thought I was studying the algorithm. In the end, the thing that changed most was the creator. -------- song info. ”After Rain" Remasered of Still have tears beyond https://suno.com/song/03a546d6-8714-4719-a422-55cb9d5e7a9
