[INTRO — whisper, distant footsteps] Don’t. Keep walking. [VERSE 1] Left foot Right foot Something keeps time I stop— It stops Half a step behind Streetlight flickers Shadow gets long Mine stands still When I move on Don’t turn around Don’t give it a face Whatever you heard— JUST PICK UP THE PACE. [PRE-CHORUS] Closer… Every time I breathe Closer… Something breathes with me I know there’s nothing there So why can I feel it— STARING? [CHORUS] DON’T LOOK BEHIND YOU! Keep your eyes ahead It only gets closer When you turn your head DON’T LOOK BEHIND YOU! Pretend you’re alone You can keep on running— BUT IT ALREADY KNOWS WHERE YOU’RE GOING [POST-CHORUS] Walk. Don’t run. Walk. DON’T FUCKING RUN. [VERSE 2] Same black car Same dead street Same wrong rhythm Behind my feet Glass reflection— There I am Something beside me Isn’t. I blink once Now there’s two One looks like me One looks at you. [PRE-CHORUS] Closer… I can hear its teeth Closer… Right behind me If there’s nothing there— Why does every little voice in my head say— DON’T. [CHORUS] DON’T LOOK BEHIND YOU! Keep your eyes ahead It only gets closer When you turn your head DON’T LOOK BEHIND YOU! Pretend you’re alone You can keep on running— BUT IT ALREADY KNOWS WHERE YOU’RE GOING [BREAKDOWN — stalking half-time bounce] Left. CHUG Right. CHUG Left. CHUG Stop. [silence] One more step. … THAT WASN’T MINE. [MASSIVE RIFF] DON’T TURN! DON’T TURN! DON’T TURN AROUND! [BRIDGE — eerie melodic clean] Maybe nothing followed me Maybe nothing’s there Maybe that warm breath on my neck Is only… air. [whisper directly behind vocal] Then why’d you stop? [FINAL CHORUS] DON’T LOOK BEHIND YOU! Keep your eyes ahead It doesn’t need a body If it lives inside your head DON’T LOOK BEHIND YOU! You were never alone You spent your whole life running— JUST TO LEAD IT HOME [OUTRO — footsteps stop] Lock the door. Kill the lights. Get into bed. … [whisper] You looked, didn’t you?
