[Intro] I came out here for supper I left with a career [Verse 1] Dawn on the jon boat, coffee gone cold Line in the green, the same story told Bobber did nothing, the morning did less I told the lake I was done with the guess Then the line went tight like a bad little plan I reeled and I reeled and I reeled like a man Up came a body with four strings and a grin Not a bass A bass And the day let it in [Pre-Chorus] Hooked on the headstock Frets in the weeds I asked what it bit It answered in D [Chorus] Fishing for bass Came home with a bass Fishing for bass Got a riff in my face Neighbors complained The cat left town Fishing for bass And the bass wouldn’t drown [Verse 2] I learned three notes and a face for the room Somebody clapped, so I learned the whole tune Girls at the rail asking how I got good I said very wet, they said maybe I should Cars in a row I can’t park or pronounce Money in stacks with a manager’s frown Posters of me with a bass like a sword I smiled on the paper I missed the fjord It’s a lake Don’t write fjord [Pre-Chorus] Fame is a tackle box somebody else locks I can play the hits I can’t find my socks [Chorus] Fishing for bass Lost in the bass Fishing for bass Same green in my brain Stage lights are pretty The lake was free Fishing for bass Bring the bass back to me [Bass Break] [Bridge] I sold the last chorus back to the night I took the bass home and I turned off the light Pulled off the strings like a bad little spell Tied on a line where the low E fell Neck for a rod, body for a reel Tuners for nothing, the joke becomes real Walked past the cars Left the girls the address If they want a legend The legend went fish [Final Chorus] Fishing for bass Bass on the prow Fishing for bass I’m a fisherman now If it bites music, I’ll throw it back twice Fishing for bass This time, the fish This time, the life [Outro] Got one It’s a bass Good
