Still waiting for my life to start

V5.5

Twenty years of making plans, keeping promises I never made. I learned to wake before the sunrise, learned to smile when I was tired. Built a house around tomorrow, fed the dreams that I acquired. Everybody said, “You made it,” like there's somewhere you arrive. But lately I've been asking when I started just surviving. I don't need another answer, I don't need another sign. I just wanna know— when did this life stop feeling mine? I'm still waiting for my life to start, still carrying a restless heart. I've done everything they told me to, but I forgot what I wanted to do. Hey! Hey! Maybe I've waited long enough. Hey! Hey! Maybe waking up is rough. I'm still waiting— but tonight I'm gonna start. I bought the things that meant I'm winning, checked the boxes one by one. Kept on running toward a finish that was moving with the sun. Now the mirror looks familiar, but the eyes have something new: “You still have a lifetime— what the hell you gonna do?” Maybe I don't need permission. Maybe I don't need a plan. Maybe all I really needed was to say— I still can. I'm still waiting for my life to start, still carrying a restless heart. I've done everything they told me to, now I'm gonna choose what I wanna do. Hey! Hey! I've waited long enough. Hey! Hey! Yeah, waking up is rough. I was waiting— now tonight I'm gonna start. No perfect day is coming. No voice will count to three. If I keep waiting for my life— it'll keep waiting for me. I'M DONE WAITING FOR MY LIFE TO START! I can hear that restless heart! Let tomorrow come and find me here, a little older—but finally clear! Hey! Hey! I waited long enough! Hey! Hey! I'm waking up! Maybe this is where I start.
