Oxgoad of God

In dust of forgotten fields, where oxen bleed and kneel A shadow moves, no trumpet, no crown, no steel Son of Anath, nameless almost, farmer with calloused hands Yet Spirit kindles fire where Philistine spear-bands stand Six hundred wolves in bronze, laughing at one who comes alone Serpent-coils on their shields, Dagon’s name carved in bone They smell sweat of the slave, they taste coming slaughter They do not see the storm behind eyes of the chosen son First blood at dusk, goad-tip finds gap beneath helmet’s cheek A giant’s roar becomes a gurgle, hot spray paints wheat He spins, staff whistles death, ribs explode like wet wood Captains fall clutching throats, screaming to a god who never stood Fifty surround him… Fifty become twenty… Twenty become none. SHAMGAR! From furrow, from mud, from least of us You raise blade SHAMGAR! When proud in iron march, humble learn Your wrath is made SHAMGAR! One man, one rod, one terrible Name sea-people break like waves on Rock that none can tame SHAMGAR! Night without stars, plain littered with broken spears and pride A warlord lifts his mace—too slow—goad ignites inside Through collarbone, through heart, through lie that might makes right He drags corpse like chaff, howling psalms into fight And women of Philistia wail And priests of Dagon gnash their teeth and fail For every champion sent returns as meat upon trail Of farmer who was never meant to prevail SHAMGAR! Even lowliest tool becomes sickle of Lord SHAMGAR! Even forgotten son can make kingdoms’ kneel SHAMGAR! By breath of One who needs no army Six hundred corpses sing glory of His mercy Last man standing, armor cracked, breathing like a furnace blast He plants blood-drenched goad upright, a cross before mast Turns his back on field of dead, walks home to plow again For war is never over But victory already given SHAMGAR! Remember his name when you feel too small to stand SHAMGAR! smallest hand can crush serpent in the sand SHAMGAR! oxgoad is still sharpened in the heavens And next humble soul it chooses Will break world again He too… saved Israel.
