Proverbs Chapter 17 Grandchildren are the Crown of the Aged

V6

[Intro: slide guitar riff] [Verse: groovy and laid-back] A dry piece of bread and peace with it is better than a house full of contentious celebrations. An intelligent servant will rule over a shameful son, and will share the inheritance among the brothers. The refining pot tests silver, and the smelting furnace tests gold: but YAHWEH tests hearts. An evildoer listens to wicked lips; and a liar pays attention to destructive talk. Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker: and whoever rejoices at calamities won’t be unpunished. [Chorus: big, anthemic, singalong] GRANDCHILDREN are the crown of the aged; and the glory of children are their parents. Excessive speech isn’t becoming of a fool: much less do lying lips in a leader. To its giver, a bribe is like a charming stone: wherever it turns, it prospers. He who conceals an offense seeks love; but he who repeats a matter alienates friends. A reprimand penetrates an understanding man than one hundred stripes to a fool. [Verse: groovy and laid-back] An evil person seeks only rebellion: So a cruel messenger will be sent against him. Better a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs, than by a fool in his foolishness. Whoever returns evil for good, evil won’t leave from his house. The beginning of an argument is like when someone lets water out: So before it breaks out, quit the dispute. He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, even they both are abomination to YAHWEH. [Chorus: big, anthemic, singalong] Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, seeing as he hasn’t the heart to learn? A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. A man who lacks an understanding will give his handshake to be a cosigner for his friend. He who loves rebellion loves conflict: and he who makes his gate tall seeks destruction. He who has a crooked heart won’t find good: and he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil. He that fathers a fool has done it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool won’t rejoice. A joyful heart is like good medicine: but a broken spirit dries up the bone. [Verse: groovy and laid-back] An evildoer takes a bribe from the lap to bend the paths of judgment. Wisdom lies before him who has understanding; but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth. A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him. Also to punish the righteous isn’t good, or to strike the generous for their integrity. He who spares his words has knowledge: and a man of intelligence is a precious spirit. Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is considered wise: and he that seals his lips will be considered a man of understanding. A dry piece of bread and peace with it is better than a house full of contentious celebrations.
