[Verse 1] A summer job during vacation At a little café across town Soda water sparkling like marbles in the light The way you smoked and looked away Made my young heart burn trying to grow up [Chorus] I had fallen in love With the girl from work A silhouette from an old black-and-white film Summer ended before I learned your name Still hear a little chime inside my chest (The bell that day) [Verse 2] Satin scarf and a cat-shaped brooch A tiny record bag in your hand “Studying again?” you laughed at me I only nodded with a fading voice [Chorus] I had fallen in love With a girl three years older The scent of faded posters on the wall Dreams I watched across an iced coffee glass Even now they never fully melt away (A little ache) [Bridge] The usual napolitan staff meal Your fingers twirling a fork That little gesture comes back sometimes Turning into sighs on sleepless nights [Chorus] I had fallen in love With the girl from work Only the hands of time rushed ahead The day I dropped my courage to call your name The bell on the glass door echoed far away [Chorus] It was my first love My girl three years older Maybe now I’d find the words to say But left untouched and out of reach It stays the prettiest memory of all (Inside of me)
