Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who will pay the price? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Hearts in a paper crown Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) When the truth comes around Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who’s gonna open first? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who takes the worst? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Gold on a cardboard crown Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) When the whole kingdom comes down [Verse 2] He courts the wicked princess With a ribbon and a lie She laughs at the poison in his mouth And lets him think she'll try Then the sinister prince arrives With a blade and a velvet sneer The jester bows too low to stand But still keeps his grudge in clear He chases the wicked princess Down the hall with the chipped-up floor and a hall of velvet scars Her heels keep time on the stonework Like she’s done this stunt before Like a dare to all the guards She turns with a smile like a blade pulled clean And leaves him talking to the air He wants her kiss, her favor, her mercy She wants trouble, not a care She smiles with a mouth full of thunder Then slips through a silver door He swears he can win her favor But she wants blood, nothing more [Pre-Chorus] Steel on silk And the court goes still He talks so brave Then he folds at the will She wants his head She wants his pride He leans too close He lunges once She steps aside The masks all crack and grin The chandeliers sway One sweet lie And the night turns gray [Chorus] Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who will bloom tonight? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who will pay the price? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Hearts in a paper crown Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) When the truth comes around Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who’s gonna open first? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who takes the worst? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Gold on a cardboard crown Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) When the whole kingdom comes down [Bridge] The knights of sorrow come Their boots like a funeral drum He laughs, then turns to stone When their shadows take the throne The queen lifts her hand And the prince draws near The jester drops his wicked mask And disappears Then came the sinister prince With a sword of steel and a bored little stare The Jester drew for glory Like he had something brave to share He traded jabs, he flashed that grin Still from the knights of sorrow He ran through the echoing dark Past their iron prayers and weathered cloaks Past every breaking heart [Final Chorus] Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who will bloom tonight? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who will pay the price? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Hearts in a paper crown Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) When the truth comes around Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who’s gonna open first? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Who takes the worst? Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) Gold on a cardboard crown Skeleton roses, (skeleton roses) When the whole kingdom comes down [Outro] In the kingdom of skeleton roses He bows with a painted grin But the hollow king is listening closer now And the lies won’t get back in [Melody] [End]
