🦂 Let My Dreams Do the Dealing ✧ The cards were never asked. ✧ Fell asleep with the tarot deck, one hand hanging off the bed. Never gave the cards a question, never cleared my busy head. The lamp was on. The curtains cracked. The moon could see the whole affair. I left the future on the quilt and let it scatter everywhere. ✦ ✦ ✦ Let my dreams do the dealing. Let the cards fall where they please. I don’t need to know the meaning while the night is holding me. No intention. No direction. No particular thing to ask. Went to sleep with nothing chosen, woke with a scorpion on my back. ✦ ✦ ✦ There were swords beneath the pillow, cups down tangled in the sheet. Someone royal near the bedpost, somebody’s world beneath my feet. But one had found a place to settle where my hands could barely reach. I felt its edge before I saw it, peeled it off and held my breath. ✦ ✦ ✦ Let my dreams do the dealing. Let the cards fall where they please. I don’t need to know the meaning while the night is holding me. No intention. No direction. No particular thing to ask. Went to sleep with nothing chosen, woke with a scorpion on my back. ✦ ✦ ✦ Was it guarding where I’m tender? Was it waiting there to sting? Funny how I asked for nothing and woke up wondering. All night its tail lay curled against a place I couldn’t see. Was I carrying the warning, or was it watching over me? ✦ ✦ ✦ Let my dreams do the dealing. They’ve got hands I’ve never seen. They can shuffle what I’m hiding into places I can’t reach. No intention. No direction. But the night had something planned. Woke with a scorpion on my back, now I’ve got it in my hand. ✦ ✦ ✦ Anyway… I didn’t ask. Apparently, that doesn’t mean I don’t get answered. 🦂 Some things get dealt without asking.
