Someone Gave Me a Melody

V6

***A special thank you to numanpi3_14 for letting me tinker with his song a little—taking it apart, trying a few things, and taking it down different paths without losing its essence. Thanks for the trust and for sharing music so generously.*** Someone once gave me a melody, some lazy afternoon I barely knew, December sunlight hanging by a thread, and damn, I took that little tune back home with me. (Someone gave it to me…) (That melody…) I sang it walking down those empty streets, before the moon had even hit the sky. Didn't mean to keep the damn thing close, but somehow it just never said goodbye. Now I carry it deep in my coat, warm where it leans against my chest. Every time I swear I'm over it, yeah, there it is again when I try to rest. Funny how something barely there can weigh like hell against my bones. I never chose to take it with me— still it feels like something of my own. A melody I never asked for, a line I sure as hell didn't write. Someone once gave me a melody, now I keep humming it every damn night. I held it to my ear like a seashell, thinking maybe the tide would talk me down. All I heard was my own damn heartbeat and that empty space making too much sound. I played it for the kid I used to be, singing barefoot in the kitchen light. Now it trails me through a crowded room, like some quiet ghost humming through the night. (Quiet ghost…) (Humming through the night…) It's wild how something paper-thin can settle heavy in your soul. Never wrote a single word of it— still somehow I know every note. A melody I never asked for, a line I sure as hell didn't write. Someone once gave me a melody, now I keep humming it every damn night. Note by note, it won't let go. I keep humming, like my heart already knows. (Note by note…) (Keep humming…) [ If I ever see that face again, I'd probably hand the melody right back. But my hands already know its shape, and my heart keeps tracing every crack. A melody I never asked for, a line I never meant to own. Someone once gave me a melody, now it's somewhere in my blood and bones. Note by note, I let it roll. Keep on humming— guess I'm never letting go. (Note by note…) (Keep humming…) (Someone once gave it to me…) Still humming…
