Borrowed Light
V5
It was an unnamed shade of gray When she walked into the room Like a cloudy night in early May A ring around the moon She carried silence like perfume Soft and so hard to place And when she smiled the gray gave way To a light across her face Her voice was low, like a warm wind Through early summer trees It wrapped around her violet lips And brought me to my knees Her hand brushed mine, a fleeting spark In the heavy humid air And for a breath the world stood still Suspended in her stare The room returned to nameless gray And in a moment she was gone The light she had so briefly lent Left me longing for the dawn I still reap the silence On the edge of every night Waiting for the gray to break With her borrowed light
