A Death of Thousand Lies

+ Show full styles

[Spoken, close-mic, fragile] Memories that hold no meaning — you and I were always dreaming. No solace in the hollow days. I had to find another way — to write myself into the play. [Deep contralto, chest voice, slow, dark] Flashing lights and sequin nights — I had the best of everything. Fame's footlight glow, I danced for kings. But in the silence after-show, the mirror showed a face streaked black — slow tears that left a greasy track. [Full chest, wide vibrato, resonant cry] Soon, my love, I'll die — a death of thousand lies. Lies I built to cage the pain that bleeds behind my eyes. The love I needed — gone. Left behind so long ago. Fortune rises while I fall — dying in the glow. [Dark, earthy chest voice] Rust-painted gold — I've never felt so cheap, so hollow, so unheld. Crusted in a tomb of stone, I ache in marrow and in bone. I tell myself I do not care — but despair has settled there, sinking deep beneath the skin, behind the mask I hold within. [Wordless vocalise intro, then resonant cry] (Ah-ah-ah...) Soon, my love, I'll die — a death of thousand lies. Lies I built to cage the pain that bleeds behind my eyes. [Spoken word, close-mic, intimate, fragile] Nothing left to go back to. The one I was — is gone. The life we shared lies in the grave. We both have moved along. But something lingers in my brain — returns again, again, again. The ghost I locked behind my eyes... behind a thousand lies. [Whisper to resonant cry crescendo] Barefoot walking through the snow — my feet have lost all feeling. Staring at a tear-stained ceiling. I don't want what we had back. I don't miss what we lacked. I just want to feel alive — again. Again. Again. [Powerful resonant cry, wide vibrato, extended sustains, quarter-tone bends] Soon... my love... I'll die... a death of thousand lies... Lies... (wordless vocalise — sustained vowel, bending, fading into feedback) [Spoken word, haunted, fading] A thousand lies...
