The Music of Erich Zann

V6

[Prologue - Atmospheric] [Sparse, distant, cold reverb, faint footsteps on wooden stairs, low cold drone, subtle wind, almost silent at first] The street that should not exist Steep and narrow, forgotten by maps I climbed to the highest room Where the mute viol player played against the dark [Verse 1 - Spectral Narrator] [Close, restrained, heavily processed spectral vocal, breathy, slight pitch instability, extreme reverb and delay] Night after night the bow moved Notes no living hand should know He never spoke, he only played Holding the window shut with sound [Verse 2 - Obsession] [Layered spectral vocals, one closer and breathy, one distant and more processed] I begged to hear the secret scores He shook his head and barred the glass Yet every night the music rose A barrier against what waited past [Build - The Listener Forces Entry] [Rising intensity, denser spectral layers, solo baroque viol becoming more urgent] One night the candles flickered low I pushed the door, I crossed the floor He played as if the world would end And still I reached to draw the curtain back [Central Solo - The Heart of Zann] [Long pure solo baroque viol, 90–130 seconds, raw gut-string tone, microtonal slides and dissonances, urgent frantic bowing, extreme reverb and spatial depth, no vocals, the music holding the void at bay with increasing desperation] [The Collapse - Primary Massive Drop] [Sudden near-silence for 2–3 seconds, then catastrophic drop: dense spectral choir, crushing sub-bass, dissonant clusters, wind howl, shattering textures] The window opened onto nothing Blackness of space illimitable Alive with motion and with music Having no semblance to the earth [Climax - The Final Playing] [Frantic multi-layered spectral vocals mixed with residual urgent viol, almost wordless howling layers, extreme intensity] He played though breath had left his chest The bow still moved when flesh was cold The music held the void at bay Until the last note fell away [Epilogue - The Music Continues] [Sparse again, pure spectral residue, fading solo viol and distant processed voices, long decaying reverb, quiet and unresolved] I fled the street I cannot find The house, the wall, the steep incline Yet somewhere still the music plays Against a window on the dark
