Everything Feels Like A Heart Attack
God, I hate this feeling Something’s wrong, I know it It starts off in the quiet Then my body starts to show it One thought leads to another I remember the last time Now I’m checking every feeling Like I’m looking for a bad sign The more I think about it The more it starts to feel real Like my mind lit the match And my body made the fear I’m bracing for the spiral Cause I know where this goes I tell myself to stop it But the panic only grows Everything feels like a heart attack I need to catch my breath I feel my body way too much Like I’m trapped inside my chest My breathing feels uneven My heartbeat’s way too loud My hands are getting colder And I can’t calm myself down I tense up without meaning to Like my body’s trying to hide I pull my arms in closer Like I need somewhere to climb inside I wanna cover up I wanna disappear I wanna get outside But I’m frozen standing here I’m trying to act normal But I’m locked behind my eyes Standing right in front of people Trying not to look terrified Everything feels like a heart attack I need to catch my breath I feel my body way too much Like I’m trapped inside my chest My breathing feels uneven My heartbeat’s way too loud My hands are getting colder And I can’t calm myself down I picture myself underwater Kicking hard against the fear The more I try to fight it The less the water’s clear All the sand comes rising up Clouding everything I see Maybe panic isn’t drowning Maybe fighting makes it deep So I stop moving for a second Let the silence pull me in Let the water hold my body Let the sand fall down again I don’t have to beat the feeling I don’t have to make it leave I just let it move around me Until I finally start to breathe Everything feels like a heart attack But I’m starting to catch my breath I still feel my body way too much But I’m not trapped inside my chest My breathing’s getting slower My heartbeat’s not as loud My hands are still cold But I think I’m coming down Slowly, I’m coming to My body’s breaking through Thank God, it’s almost over I’m holding my heart Knowing I’m alright I’m alright I’m alright I’m alright
