[Verse 1] He broke his father’s living heart Before the old man died Cashed in love for passing pleasures Left his name behind Fed his soul on empty promises Till nothing satisfied Still the Father searched the road Till his boy came home [Chorus 1] The Father yearns He longs He watches He waits He searches He calls [Verse 2] He swore he’d never known Him By the fire’s accusing light Traded truth to save his own skin Three times in one night When the rooster split the silence He fled in misery Still Jesus built another fire And waited by the sea [Chorus 2] Jesus yearns He longs He pursues He waits He calls He restores [Verse 3] For years I carried hidden anger Fear condemned my very name Doing everything I knew But drowning all the same One day I sat with folded arms Certain nothing could break through The next Your words of perfect peace Pierced the heart I hid from You [Final Chorus] God yearns He longs He pursues He restores He carries He heals [spoken] The heart of God yearns Over His earthly children With a love Stronger than death [outro] He waits… He longs… He loves…
