Once I used to sing to find the light, now silence is my stage. I paint my voice inside the colors, just to not die a little each day. They see me fine, I smile unsure, I built my life just as a lure. But I am hungry — not for bread, for something burning deep instead, for a fire that’s more than smoke, but beauty’s scent no longer spoke. The world keeps asking, “How are you?” — “I’m fine.” It’s not polite to weigh them down with all these wounds of mine. But slowly I feel myself fade away, and the voice I once had is only dust in the gray. (chorus) I’m exploding inside when they ask how I am, and I answer “I’m fine,” but I’m not, I am damned. It’s a hunger that burns with nothing to feed, the child in me just wants to be freed. But my mind keeps bending, the paranoia returns, sweet demons are dancing in shapes that burn. They whisper so softly: “Do more, you’re never enough,” and I nod in silence — but it’s all just bluff. Slowly collapsing, I’m running out of air, no peace to be found in the things I care. The void holds me tight, my only relief — but now I stop breathing, to drown feels like belief. (bridge — spoken, trembling) I look in the mirror, but don’t recognize me, I smile pretending, then instantly flee. I pay myself compliments, to feel somehow human, but the lie weighs heavy, even if the light’s still blooming. The porcelain mask slowly starts to crack. (chorus) I’m exploding inside when they ask how I am, and I answer “I’m fine,” but I’m not, I am damned. It’s a hunger that burns with nothing to feed, the child in me just wants to be freed. But my mind keeps bending, the paranoia returns, sweet demons are dancing in every form I learn. (finale — distant voice, almost a sigh) And when I finally fall, when I truly will break — will I fade into nothing, or be born by mistake? Even as I smile, the dark drapes its veil, my life will restart — but nothing will feel real.
