Maid Marian's Dark Rise (T.I.V. Original Dark What If? Chapter 11)

[Lute and war drum intro] [Verse 1] The wind was cold that May When the horns of war blew thin and long I counted every road And every prayer I sang They said Robin Hood rode at dawn promising to return one day To bring me his wedding vow But summer hope burned to ash And winter has claimed me now [Verse 2] Prince John came in silk With a smile like a blade He laid his gold at my feet And called it my wedding day My father bowed his head My mother would not speak And I, in linen white, pale and bitter could not disobey [Pre-Chorus] No raven came from sea No banner in the rain Just empty road and dust And I trapped in wedding vows I did not mean, but knew I must I heard the chapel bells Like iron grates within my chest If love can leave a wound Then let the wound confess [Chorus] Maid Marian now wears black they say, Her heart has turned to ash Robin hood left on a quest and is never coming back (back, back) [Verse 3] I kissed the chapel cross And tasted rust and shame The prince took all my days And left not even my name So, I learned that night The price of right John forced me to bend and then kneel So, I fed the guards with lies And sharpened blades of steel [Pre-Chorus] No raven came from sea No banner in the rain Just empty road and dust And a wedding bound with shame I heard the chapel bells Like iron grates within my chest If love can leave a wound Then let the wound confess [Instrumental] [Chorus] Maid Marian now wears black they say, Her heart has turned to ash Robin hood left on a quest and is never coming back (back, back) [Bridge] Now If Robin Hood ever rides Back through those broken gates He'll find no maiden meek Only a queen bound by a vow I gave my grief a crown I gave my shame a knife If he ever returns Then by God, he'll pay the price! [Final Chorus] Maid Marian now wears black they say, Her heart has turned to ash Robin hood left a on quest and is never coming back he's never coming back! He's never coming back!
