[Verse 1] Met a little girl called Mary Lou Hair like summer wheat, her eyes so blue She smiled at me, the world stood still Like a front porch breeze by a windowsill She walks like a song along a wildflower path Got a heart so pure, you should hear her laugh Oh she laughs like rain on a tin roof night Soft and sweet like a firefly light [Chorus] Oh Mary Lou, Mary Lou Glad I met a little girl called Mary Lou Every day feels brand new Like a Sunday drive or a mountain view My heart beats wild for Mary Lou Only for you, my Mary Lou [Verse 2] She bakes her love into cherry pies Sings her prayers to the open skies She dances slow to an old Hank Williams tune Barefoot with me under a July moon She’s the girl next door in this country scene With a soul scrubbed clean like a gospel dream My beautiful lass, with the gift of grace And heaven’s light on her sweet face …oh woah ohh, her sweet face [Chorus] Oh Mary Lou, Mary Lou Glad I met a little girl called Mary Lou Every day feels brand new Like a sunrise kiss that’s shared with you My heart beats wild for Mary Lou Only for you, my Mary Lou Oh woah ohh, my Mary Lou [Bridge] Now I ain’t much, just a simple man But I’ll hold her close, best I can She’s the reason I see the sky so blue And I thank the Lord for Mary Lou [Final Chorus] Oh Mary Lou, Mary Lou Glad I met a little girl called Mary Lou My forever’s stitched into you Like a well-worn boot or an old tattoo My soul’s in love with Mary Lou Only for you, my Mary Lou Yes, my soul’s only in love with you… My Mary Lou Oooo Ooo Oooo My Mary Lou
