Up North Where the Scholars Live

[Verse 1 – lead] There’s a world up north where a fella once roamed Found a campus on a hillside and he made it his home He said “I’m Dail Milton!” (Milton!) and the scholars just stared ’Cause the life he lived down south Was a life they never shared [Verse 1 – background] (a life they never shared) [Chorus – all] Up north where the scholars live! (scholars live!) Where the books stack high! (books stack high!) We don’t know half the stories But we sure know why… Up north where the scholars live! (scholars live!) They raise their beer with pride! (beer with pride!) There’s a fella in the lecture halls With a whole new side! [Verse 2 – lead] He met folks in academia, living strange and clever ways Talking theories over coffee, arguing for days Philip brewed the campus beer, running admin with a grin Said “the fellas down south Wouldn’t know where to begin” [Verse 2 – background] (wouldn’t know where to begin) [Chorus – all] Up north where the scholars live! (scholars live!) Where the books stack high! (books stack high!) We don’t know half the stories But we sure know why… Up north where the scholars live! (scholars live!) They raise their beer with pride! (beer with pride!) There’s a fella in the lecture halls With a whole new side! [Bridge – chant, printed four times] Different world! (different world!) Fella all the same! (all the same!) Different world! (different world!) Still he cheers the name! (cheers the name!) Different world! (different world!) Studying late at night! (late at night!) Different world! (different world!) Still he sings alright! (sings alright!) [Final Chorus – all] Up north where the scholars live! (scholars live!) Where the books stack high! (books stack high!) He said “I’m Dail Milton!” (Milton!) And he touched the sky! Up north where the scholars live! (scholars live!) Different life he found! (life he found!) But the fellas sing his story Back in our hometown!
