Some words arrive before we're ready To understand what they contain. We hear the sound, we know the meaning, But something takes a longer way. A thought can settle without showing, A question waits beneath the rest. What seems unanswered in the moment May simply not be finished yet. We like to think an answer Should follow what was said. But understanding has its own way Of finding us instead. Some answers come later, After waiting has let go. Not in the form we expected, Not in the words we thought we'd know. What reaches us in one moment May take another to come through. Silence isn't always absence. Sometimes something is still moving through. We don't receive each other evenly. Some things are clear from the start. Others move beyond the surface Before they find the deeper part. And what appears to pass unnoticed Can quietly change what comes next. A meaning doesn't disappear Because it hasn't surfaced yet. So time between two answers Doesn't tell us what they mean. There can be more in the interval Than either side has seen. Some answers come later, After waiting has let go. Not in the form we expected, Not in the words we thought we'd know. What reaches us in one moment May take another to come through. Silence isn't always absence. Sometimes something is still moving through. Not everything returns at once. Not everything returns in words. A response can start before There is anything to be heard. Maybe listening continues After conversation ends. Maybe what we give each other Takes its own time to unfold. Some answers come later, With no signal they were near. A thought becomes a different thought, A meaning becomes clear. What passes between people Doesn't always travel straight. Sometimes understanding Is simply running late. Not unanswered. Not unheard. Only arriving In another time.
