The Rusty Wreck

V5.5

An old rusted wreck sitting deep in the weeds An engine that died, but fed all our needs We climbed on that seat, just two kids in the grass Wishing that summer would never, ever pass My hands on the grips, you were right by my side On a broken-down chopper that never could ride But we closed our eyes and we kicked it in gear Leaving the valley, erasing our fear We were chasing the wind on a bike made of rust! Turning that meadow into highway dust! Dreaming of worlds that we yet hadn't seen Two backyard outlaws, living the dream! Yeah, we were flying away... We talked about oceans, the desert, the lights Riding forever through wild summer nights That junkyard machine was our ticket to roam A million miles away from our hometown home We were chasing the wind on a bike made of rust! Turning that meadow into highway dust! Dreaming of worlds that we yet hadn't seen Two backyard outlaws, living the dream! Now the years have flown by and the meadow is still But I look at that photograph up on the hill We grew up and parted, went our separate ways But my heart's still riding those old summer days Back on that rusted wreck... Still chasing the wind... Yeah, we were flying...
